AliExpress vs PandaBuy: When Buying Direct Replaces an Agent, and When It Doesn't

Checked · the PandaBuy Alternatives desk

Short answer

AliExpress, Alibaba Group's store for overseas shoppers since 2010, sells and ships to you directly, with buyer protection that PandaBuy never offered after delivery: a 15-day window to claim for items not as described and free returns within 15 days on eligible items. What it can't do is buy the rows on a PandaBuy spreadsheet: those are Weidian and Taobao listings, and AliExpress doesn't sell them. For generic, unbranded items AliExpress is often the simpler replacement; for the specific finds PandaBuy sheets were built around, you still need an agent.

Weidian listings of the kind that need an agent; check AliExpress only for generic equivalents. Each tile opens repbuysheet.com. The shop behind a tile usually sells the whole range, and the catalog holds 10,000+ products across those shops.

Sponsored links. Photo, name and button all open one listing on repbuysheet.com, where the seller's full photo set, the size options and the source shop link live. Dollar and yuan prices are copied from that catalog on the check date and move with the exchange rate.

AliExpress vs PandaBuy, side by side

The two worked in opposite ways: PandaBuy protected you before shipping, AliExpress protects you after delivery.

The exclusions matter: underwear, socks, food, batteries, customised items and anything AliExpress prohibits aren't covered by AliExpress's free returns. And AliExpress has its own regulatory record: in July 2026 the European Commission fined it €550 million under the Digital Services Act, which in practice means branded-looking listings are taken down often.

Verdict: AliExpress replaces PandaBuy for generic items, not for sheet finds.

Which rows of a PandaBuy sheet fit AliExpress?

A quick way to sort an old PandaBuy sheet:

  1. Generic, unbranded items (plain tees, phone accessories, small tools): search AliExpress by photo. If the same item is there, buying direct is simpler and comes with returns.
  2. Specific seller finds (a particular shop's hoodie, a specific trainer batch): convert the link with the link converter and use an open agent.
  3. Five or more items: price both routes. An agent's single box often beats several AliExpress parcels once duty is counted.

The duty calculator compares one agent box against several direct parcels for your country.

Verdict: Sort the sheet: generic rows to AliExpress, specific finds to an agent.

AliExpress's reviews and disputes

AliExpress's Trustpilot page shows 1.9/5 from 188,401 reviews, 63% five-star and 29% one-star: a huge platform with polarised experiences. Its strength is a published dispute process; its weakness, by the reviews, is how slowly disputes resolve. PandaBuy had no comparable after-delivery process at all, which is why its users relied on QC photos.

If you use AliExpress for part of a former PandaBuy haul, keep screenshots of each listing (sellers edit them) and note the dispute deadline for each order; the haul template has a status column for this.

Verdict: Use AliExpress's dispute window, and keep evidence from the day you order.

Checking an AliExpress seller before ordering

AliExpress gives you more to check than PandaBuy did, because a seller's record is public. Before buying an item found on a sheet:

  • Store age and positive-feedback percentage, shown on the store page. A store open for years with a high percentage is the safer bet.
  • Reviews with photos of the exact item, ideally from buyers in your country, to see the real colour and fit.
  • The delivery option at checkout and whether it tracks all the way to your door.
  • Whether VAT is in the price. For UK and EU buyers it's normally collected at checkout on low-value orders.

An agent's QC photos show the item you will get; AliExpress reviews show items other people got. Both help in different ways, and for a branded-looking item at a low price, neither changes the rules at your border.

Verdict: Check store age, photo reviews and the delivery option before ordering a sheet item on AliExpress.

AliExpress vs PandaBuy: questions

Can AliExpress replace PandaBuy?

Partly. AliExpress, Alibaba Group's overseas store since 2010, ships to you directly and handles generic, unbranded goods well: plain tees, phone accessories, small tools. The rows on a typical PandaBuy sheet are Weidian and Taobao listings, though, and AliExpress doesn't stock those. Search each row's photo first, then split the list. Send generic rows to AliExpress and keep specific shop finds for an open agent.

Can I buy a PandaBuy link on AliExpress?

No. A PandaBuy link wraps a Weidian or Taobao listing, and AliExpress is a separate marketplace that can't open it. Run the link through the link converter to recover the original, then place it with an agent that's still trading. If the item is generic, try AliExpress image search with its main photo; you may find the same product with free returns within 15 days. Convert specific finds and search for generic ones.

Is AliExpress safer than an agent?

It protects you at a different stage. AliExpress gives you a 15-day window to claim for items not as described and free returns within 15 days on eligible items, but you never see the goods before they ship. PandaBuy sent 4 QC photos and let you reject a wrong item at the warehouse. Choose AliExpress when after-delivery returns matter most, and an agent when you want to inspect first.

Is AliExpress cheaper than PandaBuy was?

For one or two items, usually yes, because there's no agent fee and no international freight to split. The balance shifts at around five items: each AliExpress store ships its own parcel, and in the EU the €3 per-category duty from July 2026 hits every parcel, so several boxes cost more than one. Price both routes in the duty calculator; for hauls of five or more, an agent's single box often costs less.

Does AliExpress combine parcels?

Mostly not. Every store sends its own package, although AliExpress's combined delivery can merge some eligible items into one shipment. That matters at the border: UK orders up to £135 carry VAT at checkout, and in the EU each parcel faces the €3 per-category charge on its own. If you're buying from three or more stores, check whether combined delivery covers them; if it doesn't, an agent's one box may cost less.

Is AliExpress connected to PandaBuy?

No. AliExpress is Alibaba Group's marketplace for overseas shoppers, launched in 2010, while PandaBuy was an independent shopping agent that closed in 2024. They did different jobs: PandaBuy bought from Weidian, Taobao and 1688 on your behalf, and AliExpress sells its own sellers' listings straight to you. An AliExpress account gives no access to old PandaBuy orders or links, so treat them as unrelated services.

Does AliExpress charge VAT at checkout?

Usually, for UK and EU buyers. In the UK, VAT is added to the price on orders up to £135; in the EU it's collected through IOSS, so a separate tax bill shouldn't arrive with the parcel. The EU's €3 per-category duty from July 2026 is a separate charge applied per parcel. Look for the tax line on the checkout page, and if it's missing on a UK or EU order, check the order details before paying.

AliExpress — sources and dates

Put together by the PandaBuy Alternatives desk; every claim was checked against the list below on . The PandaBuy history leans on court records, police-side reporting and Wikipedia; agent fees, storage and review counts come from each agent's own pages or the named trackers. Where sources disagree we print both. A finds tile was only published if its main photo and its link showed the same item.
