Agent Hauls to New York and the US: Life After the $800 Allowance

Checked · the PandaBuy Alternatives desk

Short answer

PandaBuy's US users mostly paid no import charges, because parcels under $800 entered duty-free. That allowance ended for goods from China on May 2, 2025 and for every country on August 29, 2025. Every agent parcel can now owe duty, at a rate that depends on the product and on trade measures that have changed repeatedly, so we don't quote a single percentage. What you can control is the number of parcels: one combined box is one customs entry. Freight costs more too: Sugargoo publishes $55.18 for 3 kg of clothing to California, about $18.39 a kilo.

Because rates depend on the item's tariff classification and current measures, the honest approach is to check what your agent's US lines include. Some quote duty-inclusive prices; others leave duty to be collected by the carrier. Ask before you pay for shipping, and keep the agent's invoice.

Verdict: Assume every US parcel is dutiable now, and prefer lines that state duty up front.

Why one box beats several

With no allowance, each parcel is its own customs entry, potentially with its own duty and carrier processing. Splitting a haul across agents or shipments multiplies that. Consolidating into one box at one agent keeps it to a single entry. The duty calculator counts entries for US parcels rather than guessing a rate.

Freight also weighs more heavily. At Sugargoo's published price, a 3 kg US parcel costs about twice the UK equivalent. Remove shoe boxes, ask for compact packing, and use the shipping calculator before choosing a line.

Verdict: One agent, one box, one customs entry.

Who delivers, and what to watch

Postal-style lines usually hand over to USPS for the last mile; express lines use UPS, FedEx or DHL. Duty, when due, may be collected by the carrier before delivery. Watch for text messages asking for 'customs fees' through unfamiliar links; pay only through the carrier's own site or app.

  • Keep the agent's invoice; CBP may ask for value.
  • Branded goods can be detained under US trademark rules, the subject of the 2024 New York lawsuit against PandaBuy and the injunction against CSSBuy.
  • USFans has a US-sounding name but ships from China like the rest; see its page.

Fees and storage come from the agent's own site where it publishes them, otherwise from rep.tools, KakoGuide, W2C Spreadsheet or CNBuyPilot, flagged as third-party. Trustpilot numbers were read Sept 26 to Oct 4, 2026; where it says score hidden, Trustpilot withdrew the rating after removing reviews. A dash means we found nothing checkable.

Shipping to the US: questions

Is there still an $800 duty-free limit?

No. The $800 de minimis allowance ended for goods from China on May 2, 2025, and for shipments from every other country on August 29, 2025. PandaBuy-era buyers mostly paid nothing at the border, but any agent parcel can now owe duty, whatever its value. Plan every US haul on the assumption that customs may charge it.

What duty rate applies to a US agent parcel?

There isn't a single figure. The rate depends on each product's tariff classification and on trade measures that have changed repeatedly since 2025, so any percentage would soon be wrong. Some agents quote duty-inclusive US lines, while others leave duty for the carrier to collect. Ask before you pay for shipping, and keep the agent's invoice in case CBP asks.

Who delivers agent parcels in the US?

USPS handles the last mile on most postal-style lines, while express lines use UPS, FedEx or DHL. When duty is due, the carrier may collect it before delivery. Be wary of texts asking for 'customs fees' through unfamiliar links, since these are a known trick. Pay only through the USPS, UPS, FedEx or DHL website or app.

Is shipping to the US more expensive?

Yes. Sugargoo lists $55.18 for a 3 kg clothing parcel to California, about $18.39 a kilo, while the same parcel to the UK is $27.94. That's roughly twice the UK price. Removing shoe boxes and asking for compact packing keeps the weight down. Run the shipping calculator before picking a US line.

Should I split my haul into several parcels?

No. With no allowance left since August 29, 2025, each parcel becomes its own customs entry, with its own possible duty and carrier processing. Splitting a haul across agents or shipments multiplies those costs. One agent and one consolidated box keep it to a single entry, and the duty calculator counts entries for you. Ship US hauls as one box.

Did US buyers pay duty on PandaBuy hauls?

Mostly not. Until 2025, parcels worth under $800 entered the US duty-free, so a typical PandaBuy haul arrived without import charges. That ended on May 2, 2025 for China-origin goods. PandaBuy also faced a 2024 New York lawsuit over trademarks, and branded goods can still be detained. Don't rely on PandaBuy-era cost estimates for a US haul today.
